The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has launched a new initiative to promote ethical artificial intelligence (AI) research and applications. The announcement was made during the third Global AI Summit in Riyadh. In collaboration with UNESCO, this project aims to set a global benchmark for responsible AI innovation, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s focus on ethical tech development.
The Global AI Summit (GAIN) 2024 will feature a High-Level Ministerial Segment on AI Ethics and Governance. This program encourages sharing knowledge and best practices for embedding ethics into AI systems. It also aims to provide a framework for evaluating AI’s ethical maturity and foster global collaboration for responsible AI.
The initiative brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, AI experts, corporate leaders, and academics. Its goal is to create a platform for discussing AI’s future and its impact on policy, research, business, and daily life, with a focus on ethical and responsible AI development in line with national values.

The session will highlight international efforts led by various countries and global forums. It will feature insights from the countries first implementing the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI using the Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM). Nearly 60 countries are already assessing legal reforms and policies related to AI through RAM.
Additionally, the initiative will unveil Saudi Arabia’s Country Report, developed using RAM. This report, part of UNESCO’s efforts to promote ethical AI, will be presented alongside regional and sub-regional collaborations aimed at addressing specific regional challenges and opportunities.
