CoinSwitch Launches India’s First VDA Handbook to Aid Law Enforcement as Crypto-Related Cases Rise

  • CoinSwitch unveils India’s first VDA-focused handbook to equip police and cybercrime units with practical tools for crypto investigations.
  • The initiative follows rising crypto-linked cases and builds on CoinSwitch’s workshops with state law enforcement agencies.
  • Executives say regulatory clarity and investigative capability are essential as India retains its position as the world’s top market for grassroots crypto adoption.

CoinSwitch has launched what it calls India’s first comprehensive Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) handbook for law enforcement, a move aimed at helping police, cybercrime units, and policymakers navigate increasingly complex investigations involving cryptocurrencies.

The guide, titled Virtual Digital Assets Decoded, arrives at a time when crypto adoption in India continues to climb sharply. Police officials across states are encountering more cases involving blockchain transactions, cross-border fund flows, and sophisticated fraud patterns that require technical understanding to investigate effectively. CoinSwitch said the handbook will be distributed across police stations and cybersecurity units to offer practical clarity on asset tracing, crime typologies, and compliance frameworks.

Ashish Singhal, Co-founder and CEO of CoinSwitch, said the surge in grassroots crypto adoption also places greater responsibility on service providers.

India has emerged as a global leader in grassroots-level crypto adoption, ranking first in the Global Crypto Adoption Index for the third consecutive year in 2025. With this growth comes a responsibility for service providers to safeguard consumer interests and foster a safer, more inclusive crypto ecosystem. This handbook is our contribution to that mission,” he said.

The handbook is designed to translate technical concepts into operational guidance, bridging a knowledge gap that often slows investigations. Sukant Dukhande, Senior Director of Legal at CoinSwitch, said the rapid evolution of the digital asset landscape has made coordination between law enforcement, regulators, and industry actors essential.

“Crypto is a rapidly evolving global asset class, bringing inherent complexity. This handbook is designed to assist police officials, policymakers, and regulatory bodies by providing practical insights, case studies, and best practices to enhance coordination and support informed, effective decision-making,” he said.

CoinSwitch has conducted over 35 workshops so far on blockchain tracing and crypto crime investigations for state police departments and cyber units. The firm said it intends to expand these training initiatives alongside the handbook distribution to build what it described as a “sustained ecosystem of knowledge.”

To streamline cooperation, law enforcement agencies can submit information requests through nodaldesk@coinswitch.co. The handbook is available online and is meant to function as a reference for both ongoing and future cases as crypto-related activity grows across India.
